Basketball is back!
After a long awaited absence due to Covid19, basketball is finally about to resume!
Training will commence on Monday 7th & Wednesday 9th December 2020 on the outdoor courts in Salesian College.
More information will be given to you shortly by your child’s coach.
Things will be a lot different this season for both training and games in regards to adhering to Covid19 rules.
At this stage no parents will be allowed to step onto a court at training or enter the stadium during training sessions and only one person can accompany a child to a game as each venue will have capped numbers.
The new Winter 2021 season will be an extended 22 game season commencing on 12th December, breaking over the Christmas period, then resuming in February 2021. Your coach will be able to give you information on season fees and payment options seeing this will be a larger than usual season.
Please note that for any player, team manager or coach to train or take a court during a game, they must have an active Basketball Victoria licence (insurance) which you pay for on PlayHQ (this is separate to the Club’s registration fees). Children’s licences are $25 per year and coaches and team managers are free but they still must register for a licence via PlayHQ.
We will shortly provide you with a link in PlayHQ where you will have to go into each child/team manager/coach and nominate for them to play in the upcoming Winter 2021 season but for now, please ensure that they are registered to participate for Rupertswood Basketball Club and have paid their annual fee that covers them for 365 days from when games resume in December 2020 ($25 for children, free for coaches and team manager) for a Basketball Victoria Licence (insurance).
If you already have paid for your licence previously, it will automatically expire in December 2021 given the season has been delayed due to Covid19.
We are going to need many volunteers this season to assist with adherence to Covid19 regulations during every game at every venue. All clubs must provide Bio Security Officers at each game to assist. To help share the load around each week, we would love for parents/family to complete a short 15 minute free online course and you will receive a Certificate of Acknowledgement that you are Covid19 trained. That way we can always have a BSO present at each game in each venue and not have to rely on just the Committee, Coaches and Team Managers to cover this role. It will be as simple as ensuring hand sanitiser is used, masks are worn and surfaces are wiped down, etc.
Please keep an eye on our Facebook page and this website for further details and your coaches will have more information shortly.
Get the kids up and about as they will need to be fit to play again!!
PLAY HQ – Winter 2021 season
UPDATED 23RD NOVEMBER 2020
Thank you to everyone that has already registered in Play HQ to help set up teams for the upcoming Junior Domestic Winter 2021 season.
Most people have only nominated their child to play in the Winter 2020 season but we recently had the upcoming Winter 2021 season made available to select to play in. Every season, your child needs to be nominated to play in that upcoming season so this will become a regular thing.
TO NOMINATE TO PLAY, COACH OR BE A TEAM MANAGER IN THE WINTER 2021 JUNIOR DOMESTIC COMPETITION, please follow these steps:
(1) Log into Play HQ as the primary user – use this link TO BE ADVISED SHORTLY
This link will take you directly to the Rupo Winter 2021 season screen. Jump to step (2) below
(if you don’t come in on the Rupertswood club landing page, Search for “rupertswood” and click onto the Club link that comes up. Then click on the Select option to the right of “Register a player, team manager or coach” under Junior Domestic “Winter 2021 season”). Continue onto step (2) below.
(2) Click Get Started and follow the prompts through. You will need to do this for each child in your family. You will be issued with a confirmation invoice for each child for zero dollars if you have already paid your annual Play HQ licence.
If you are newly registering your child in Play HQ, you will have to pay the annual $25 fee per child but please ensure you only select to play in the Winter 2021 season option.
As a club, we still need to submit teams asap to the SBA and we are using Play HQ registrations to determine who is wanting to play. Your child cannot train or play without this Play HQ licence.
If you need any help with Play HQ, please email the club on rupertswoodbasketballclub.org.au.
Regards, Sharon
MESSAGE FROM SBA – basketball update
Dear Members,
In light of the state government announcement this afternoon we will be closing the stadium after scheduled VJBL and Big V training on Wednesday night 08/07/2020 for at least 6 weeks. We understand many of our members are frustrated but we need to do what we can to stop the spread of the virus.
Aussie Hoops:
We are awaiting word from Basketball Australia, we will be looking at rolling over registered participants to term 4. If you do not wish to do this please contact Chris via gm@sunburybasketball.com.au.
Flight Path Program:
This will be reassessed at a later date.
Junior Domestic:
The SBA is postponing the start of the season for AT LEAST 6 weeks. We will still be running a longer Summer season. Clubs have a little longer to get teams together. Please get in contact with your clubs for more information on how to register. **MAKE SURE YOU CHILD IS REGISTERED IN PLAY HQ FOR THE SUMMER 2020 SEASON SO THEY ARE READY FOR WHEN THE SEASON FINALLY STARTS – instructions pinned on our Facebook page or follow this link https://www.playhq.com/register/2a8f1e**
VJBL:
We are waiting on communication from Basketball Victoria, however, we do not see any more games for VJBL in the 2020 season. In light of this Kennedy and I have been working hard on a fun developmental program to be open to all VJBL kids to participate in. We are very proud to be one of the very few associations across Australia who are offering alternatives to representative families. Watch this space.
Junior Jets teams are welcome to train tonight and tomorrow night before the lockdown if teams wish. If you do not wish to come in for training please notify your coach or if you are a coach please notify the office and your team.
Casual Shooting:
Boardman is open for casual shooting on Wednesday during the hours of 9:00 am to 3:00 pm. Time slots are an hour long and it cost $3 per player to shoot. Please follow our guidelines and enjoy your time back on the court before we go back into lockdown.
Sunbury College Kids:
If you have not received a text or email from DHHS you are welcome to come in and train tonight and tomorrow.
3X3 Tournament:
The proposed date for the 3×3 is the Melbourne cup weekend. More information will come out at a later stage.
We are following the guidelines laid out by DHHS and Basketball Victoria. On behalf of the SBA keep safe and healthy. Remember we are in this together and there are plenty of support services available. Please check in on each other by phone or Zoom during this difficult time.
Please Wash your hands, keep your distance, and download the COVID safe app.
Please STAY AT HOME. Hopeful that we see you all ready to go in the next 6-8 weeks.
We will keep you up to date as much as we can during this period.
Kind regards
Christopher Tighe

Important Announcement re resumption of basketball
Hi all,
Basketball could resume in July.
The start of the season will be called Summer season with extra rounds but not sure how many yet depends on government allowed start date.
Our fees for this season will be based on rounds played & we will work this out when we know.
All players who paid deposits will have this rolled over to new season.
All players not returning can contact the Treasurer for a refund.
There will also be a change of age so player will go up early if they were meant to in September.
We have no idea when seniors will return at this stage.
COULD ALL PLAYERS email rupertswoodbasketballclub@gmail.com with their name, date of birth & current contact number. We will be using this information to create sides so this MUST be done prior to end of June.
Players will also need to register on Play HQ before they can train or play as it is Basketball Victoria insurance. It is $25.00 per year so covers player for 2 seasons. Information about registering to Player HQ is on the club website & a pinned post here on Facebook page.
Please contact the club if you have any problems with this. Remember, this MUST also be done prior to the end of June.
Thank you – Rupertswood Basketball Club
Basketball update
Hi Rupo Families,
It’s been a while since you last heard from us. We hope you are all staying well.
There is still no definite restart for basketball as yet.
Here is the link to the latest COVID19 update from Basketball Victoria. http://basketballvictoria.com.au/covid-19/?fbclid=IwAR2uOa-c2e_u5bDY0ixiMB1A93Lug4-4-MNjYOwZ-1y5of7dUV8m9Th7OE4
The upshot is, with Winter nights already here, there are very few OUTDOOR venues that could safely be of use to anyone, the team numbers would be small, the time limited, no actual game time, distancing to be maintained and parents required to wait nearby in cars.
The 21st June is a week out from School Holidays. We are still unclear how much of previously used indoor spaces would be available to us and what amount of time before and after training sessions would be needed, plus hygiene & cleaning would need to be done between groups. We are still working all this out with Basketball Victoria, Sunbury Basketball Association and Salesian College. Realistically, we cannot see any definite training until school starts Term 3 on July 13th.
There will be costs involved, but again we are unsure how this will unfold.
Any basketball training, whenever it does officially start, is not available to anyone who has not registered with Play HQ. Play HQ is still open to register if you haven’t already done so.

Update on basketball/COVID19
Hope you are staying well, and away from others where able.
What a different year this has been so far.
No one could have predicted this COVID19 situation, and how it will pan out in the months to come.
While the world and us are in turmoil, Rupertswood Basketball Club would like to thank all our families for their patience and tolerance….. our Committee is in the dark, same as you.
At this stage, sport including basketball is not a priority.
Everything will just be on hold until we hear otherwise, and then we will work things out from then.
Below is the latest information we have received from Sunbury Basketball Association.
———————————————————————————-
Update from the General Manager of SBA:
As we are all aware that this situation is fluid and the circumstances are changing by the day still, and we have no light at the end of the tunnel yet. We are remaining positive and know that basketball will be back. The SBA is continuing to follow the advice from Basketball Australia and Basketball Victoria. The below information is for transparency.
Association news:
Kennedy and I are still working from home at this stage, if you need to get a hold me I am working 3 days a week (Monday, Tuesday and Friday). Email is the best option for that. Kennedy is in constant contact with Junior Jets coaches and players, and he is doing a number of community engagement tasks. Erin and Nathan have been stood down for now. As soon as we get back to planning the winter season and playing will be re-instating them.
We encourage you all to follow our social media channels.
Our newsletters are shared on social media too so anyone can subscribe.

We are looking at running an online raffle in the near future. We have already have 2 great prizes from an associate involved in the NBA. Keep an eye out for more information.
Basketball Victoria:
I had a video meeting with BV today. Basketball Victoria will continue to advocate the State and Federal Government for financial support to enable the continuity of member associations and the Victorian basketball community. We have already implemented some of their strategies and will be continuing our work on engagement with all our members.
Below are some key points:
BV is advocating the government on behalf of all Associations statewide.
BV has indicated that the ban on indoor venues will have major impacts on the return of basketball and will be advocating that the wording is changed so we get back to playing as soon as other sports are allowed to. The reasoning for this is that our venues are large and our one court venues have not many people attend games less than 50.
BV and our priority list for programs getting back up
Grassroots sports (junior domestic and Snr domestic)
Flight Path Program (Aussie Hoops depending on Basketball Australia)
VJBL (the season is ‘suspended’ at the moment) want to start up ASAP after domestic
BIG V postponed for now. Re assessed after Easter
Communication and Marketing plans
We will continue to post and share content. We are pushing the #HoopsAtHome mantra and will be working with other associations
We are encouraged us to run a winter comp if we can. We will be working to see how this will look.
Thank you to everyone for your understanding. We are doing our best with over 3,500 members to look after. We appreciate that a majority of you understand we deal in the business of basketball and that no basketball means no business. I know there are a lot of kids that just want to play (I have 2 at home). Please remember to practice social distancing and wash your hands. If we follow the guidelines we will be back on court quicker.

General Manager

**This will be the last email in this emergency format. To support our sponsors there will be more news from them in the next email.
UPDATE ON STATUS OF BASKETBALL SEASON/S
As we are all aware that this situation is fluid and the circumstances are changing by the day. Last night the board and office met and had to make decisions that were not easy. Each of the topics was discussed at length and none were taken lightly. The SBA also followed the advice from Basketball Australia and Basketball Victoria. We also reached out to the basketball community and would like to thank other associations for sharing information and guidance.
The SBA has come to the following decisions in the interest of public safety and more importantly the health and safety of our basketball community.
Junior Domestic:
The finals for the summer season have been canceled.
Teams that have finished first and second on the ladder at the end of the last round (round 11 29th February) are deemed to be the premiers and runner-up of the season. No trophies will be issued.
Planning and preparation for the 2020 winter season will go ahead as normal. Clubs cut off time are the same and the SBA office will structure the competition and allocate teams as per normal.
Senior Domestic:
The summer domestic season has been canceled.
Flight Path:
FlightPath is canceled. Winter registrations will be up by March 31st.
Aussie Hoops:
Bound by Basketball Australia’s decisions. BA has removed all term 2 registrations online. We will keep you up to date when more information comes to light.
VJBL:
VJBL games are postponed until at least April 17. Further updates will continue to be provided on a weekly basis
Big V:
Big V games are postponed until at least April 13. Further league specific communications will follow in the coming days.
All Training:
Basketball Victoria considers formal or organised team training to be part of basketball-related activities, programs, and events. As such, we highly recommend training sessions are postponed until further notice. For now, we are following the recommendation set by Basketball Vitoria.
School Holiday camps:
Cancelled
Tribunal Hearings:
All tribunal hearings have been postponed.
Thank you for your patience we are doing the best we can. This situation is not ideal and we would like nothing more than to be on the court playing the sport we all love.

General Manager, SBA
